The collection of young talent and experienced musicians who perform over the three weeks make the Sarasota Music Festival one of the most prestigious classical music gatherings in the United States. The Florida State Legislature even deemed it the "Official Teaching and Performing Festival of the State of Florida" in 1984.

There are over 500 students who annually audition to participate in the Sarasota Music Festival, but only 60 lucky musicians are selected. The students get the opportunity to work and learn alongside 40 accomplished masters of classical music.

Alumni regularly return to give back to the festival that gave them a great start to their careers. The real winners at the Sarasota Music Festival are the crowds who get to hear these two groups share their different musical perspectives and collaborate in ensembles, master classes, and performances.

The Sarasota Music Festival was originally co-founded in 1965 by Paul Wolfe and initially included only seven guest members. Their one week of performances grew to three weeks in just two years, and people started coming from around the U.S. to participate.

Some of the festival's feature events include Tuesday Artist Showcase concerts, Friday Festival chamber concerts, and Saturday Symphony orchestra concerts. The Levin Lecture will also take place on June 23 featuring former festival artistic director Robert Levin sharing his insights on music.

Patrons are able to purchase festival passes in advance or single-event tickets in person on the day of the performance.
